The POLICY CLUB is fostering academic partnerships

On 25 September 2025, The POLICY CLUB visited VILNIUS TECH with Ionna Trofimova Elliot, CEO and Santanu Ganguly, Executive Member of The Policy Club/ BorderlessRenewables.

Discussions took place with the Vice Dean, doc. dr. Živilė Sederevičiūtė-Pačiauskienė, and the audience about diverse subject matters, The POLICY CLUB’s recent public policy research on Net-Zero Carbon and Value Transitions (Trofimova-Elliot & White, 2025) and Quantum Computing and AI in Industrial Re-engineering, where the intersection of quantum computing and AI can help propel the future of sustainability and covered Fusion Research, Oil industry and CO2 emissions, Industry 4.0, cyclic economy and of course no quantum tech discussion these days is complete without NVIDIA‘s sustained commitment in quantum inspired computing via cuQuantum, CUDA-Q, DGX-Q …It was helpful that Philip Intallura Ph.D posted the recent coup by HSBC & IBM around the same time – that helped expand upon my results on applications of quantum Generative algorithms in finance.

In the context of sustainable development, quantum computing offers the ability to efficiently solve problems that face significant challenges in the forms of time and computational complexities on classical computers. Some examples of these are NP-hard problems, drug discovery, hyper optimised financial inferencing, molecular modelling, 3D image analysis, climate modeling, energy optimization, supply chain management – just to name a few. By processing high dimensional complex data and identifying patterns much more efficiently than classical computing, quantum computing can provide actionable insights that drive sustainable practices across industries, especially for Industry 4.0 (I4.0) that, despite its huge potential, faces challenges in the form of computational capability and system complexity. This is where Quantum Computing (QC) can play a crucial role by integrating cutting-edge I4.0 technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain technology, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), cybersecurity and others and take help take us forward to a more sustainable world.
